Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA). The successful applicant will work with Prof. Sherry Suyu on cosmology and galaxy formation/evolution using gravitational lenses, particularly on lensing of transients such as lensed quasars and lensed supernovae. MPA has direct access to the full suite of ESO observing facilities, and excellent computing facilities. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing/future imaging surveys including the LSST. Given the nature of projects on gravitational lensing of transients, previous experience in analysis of transient survey data, HST data, ground-based data, gravitational lensing, supernovae and/or machine learning would be beneficial but is not required. The successful applicant will be strongly encouraged to pursue additional independent research projects. The appointment is for two years, and can be renewed for the third year subject to performance and funding. The MPA and the neighboring institutes in Garching/Munich host a strong research program in astrophysics and provide a stimulating environment.

The appointment is expected to begin before December 2018 and requires the completion of a PhD. Applicants should submit a statement of research interests (within 3 pages), CV and publication list to the email address: [email protected]. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the same email address. Full consideration will be given to applications received by June 15, 2018.

The MPA is actively committed to equal opportunity in employment.
