Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the Physics and Astronomy Department at the University of Missouri Columbia. The successful candidate will work with Professor Yicheng Guo on one or more of the following topics: (1) morphology and structures of distant galaxies; (2) star formation histories of low-mass galaxies; and (3) environmental effects of galaxy evolution. The research will involve data reduction, scientific analysis, publication, and proposal writing. Independent research in similar fields will be encouraged and supported.
A Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a closely related field is required by the start date. Experience in the following areas is desirable: (a) reduction and analysis of imaging and spectroscopic data, (b) observing experience with HST or ground-based UV/optical/NIR telescopes, and (c) experience with multi-wavelength astronomical data analysis.
The initial appointment is for two years, which may be renewed for a third year contingent upon performance and funding availability. The start date is summer/fall 2018, but an earlier start is possible. The position comes with a competitive salary and funding for travel to observatories and conferences.
