Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in extragalactic astrophysics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Haverford College, PA.

The successful applicant will work with Prof. Karen Masters and collaborators on exploitation of data from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey of SDSS-IV, and especially HI-MaNGA, which is obtaining HI followup of MaNGA. They will be a full participant of SDSS-IV (with proprietary data access). They may also be interested in research making use of galaxy morphologies from the Galaxy Zoo family of citizen science projects.

Faculty and undergraduates at Haverford are supported to be active in internationally recognised research.  We are particularly interested in candidates who feel that they could both contribute to and flourish in this unique educational environment. There will be the opportunity, if desired, to take advantage of this setting to develop skills and experience through mentoring students in research as well as in teaching.  Haverford is part of the Keck Northeast Astronomy Consortium and also benefits from strong ties with the Astronomy and Astrophysics faculty at Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore.

A PhD is required by the start of the employment. The position is funded for 2 years, and a start date on or before 1st October 2018 is expected.
