The Australian National University (ANU) College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences covers all areas of scientific endeavour, from astrophysics to climate change, epidemiology to theoretical chemistry. Scientists at ANU use their skills to contribute to advancing science for the future of the world, integrating high-level research and educational excellence.
The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) is the leading research school in Australia in the field of astronomy and astrophysics, and has been ranked number 10 in the world in space science. The School has world-class staff and students, and an exceptional track record in academic publishing, teaching, and funding.
We are seeking applications for a faculty position within the School from world-class researchers in astronomy and astrophysics. We are particularly interested in applicants in the broad areas of cosmology, Galactic astrophysics, and radio astronomy, but emphasise that the position is open to researchers in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics; we welcome applications from theorists, observers, and instrumentalists. This is primarily a research position, although teaching is also part of the role.
The faculty member will contribute to the strategic goals of RSAA through excellence in research, teaching, and other professional activities. They will be a driver of the School’s research programs, and will win grants, supervise graduate students, and teach undergraduates. The vibrant and diverse astronomical research community at RSAA has access to a broad array of facilities, including the Keck, Magellan, and AAT optical telescopes, and radio telescopes including ATCA, Parkes, ASKAP, and the MWA. ANU is a partner in the Giant Magellan Telescope project. Computational facilities include access to the National Computational Infrastructure supercomputer, as well as RSAA’s multi-processor server.
The University actively encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. For more information on employment opportunities, contact our Indigenous Employment Consultant on [email protected].
