Postdoctoral Position in Extragalactic Astrophysics

The Institute of Astrophysics at Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) in Chile is offering a postdoctoral position within the project “SUbmillimeter galaxies as Proto-cluster tracERs (SUPER): confronting theory and observations” led by Prof. María Celeste Artale. The SUPER project aims to evaluate the role of submillimeter galaxies as protocluster tracers and compare their suitability with other potential tracers as Lyman-break galaxies and Lyman-alpha emitters. The postdoc will be co-advised by Prof. Antonio Montero-Dorta at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (USM), Chile, and funded by ALMA Funds 2022. For this project, the candidate will employ cosmological simulations.

The SUPER project builds on the framework of the ODIN collaboration (Lucia Guaita, UNAB; PI: Kyoung-Soo Lee, Purdue University) and the TolTEC legacy survey (Alexandra Pope, University of Massachusetts). 

The postdoc will have the opportunity to work with the stimulated research environment at UNAB and USM. The position includes funds to visit international collaborators of the SUPER project at Purdue University and the University of Massachusetts in the USA. 

We seek a candidate with a PhD degree in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or an equivalent degree. Experience using cosmological simulations and/or expertise on high-redshift galaxies will be appreciated but not required.  The appointment within the framework of the SUPER project is for 2 years.
