Job Description

The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University invites applications for a 2-year postdoc position (with possibility of 1-year extension) on the topic of supernova chemistry and spectral modelling. This position is co-founded by the Swedish National Space Board and the Department of Astronomy. The successful applicant will work together with Dr. A. Jerkstrand to develop models for supernova emission with particular focus on molecular and dust processes, and their observational signatures. A major goal of this is to produce models useful to interpret upcoming observations with the James Webb Space Telescope.

The position offers the opportunity to interact with the strong supernova research group at SU as well as international collaboration partners. The department is actively involved with the Zwicky Transient Facility, LOFAR, the Swedish Solar Telescope, NOT, ESA facilities such as JWST, and has also signed an MOA with LSST. About 20% of the time is available for fully independent research projects. The department is located at the Albanova University Centre in central Stockholm, a cluster of research institutes in physics and astronomy that together make up one of the most vibrant astrophysics research centres in the world.

The applicant should have a PhD, or expect to obtain a PhD by September 1 2018, related to
theoretical and/or coding work on chemistry, supernovae, or other astrophysical objects considering radiation transport, gas state, spectral formation, atomic and molecular processes. Experience with astrochemistry is an advantage (but not necessary), and applicants with a PhD in astrochemistry in other areas than supernovae are encouraged to apply.

The position has a flexible starting time between September 2018 and early 2019. The current postdoc salary level is around 35,100 SEK/month (~3,510 euro) but depends on experience. Funding for travel will also be available.
