Job Description

The Universidad de Antofagasta in Chile invites applications for a postdoctoral position in galaxy evolution. The successful applicant will work with Prof. Médéric Boquien in collaboration with Prof. Eduardo Ibar (from Universidad de Valparaíso) on the exploitation of Integral Field Spectroscopy data to tackle the relation between outflows and star formation in nearby star-forming galaxies.

The Universidad de Antofagasta is located near some of the most important astronomical infrastructures in the world, including ALMA and VLT. We are particularly interested in candidates who feel that they could both contribute to and flourish in a fast-growing educational environment, especially to strengthen a research group with young Master’s students.

The position is fully funded for two years by the ESO-Government of Chile Joint Committee and may be extended further contingent on funding. In addition to a competitive salary, the postdoc will have a research budget of ~4000 USD/year, while also having access to the 10% Chilean time, which includes Gemini-S, LCO, CTIO, VLT, and ALMA.

Interested applicants must hold a PhD in astronomy or a related field by the starting date and must send a cover letter, a CV, a list of publications, a research statement no longer than 3 pages, and contact information for 3 references to Prof. Médéric Boquien ([email protected]) by 31 December 2017.
