Job Description

The Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) invites applications for a

Tenure-track astrophysicist (m/f/d)

who will strengthen our research in the section Stellar Physics and Exoplanets, led by Prof. Dr. Katja Poppenhaeger. This section has a focus on investigating star-exoplanet systems through observations and simulations. The tenure-track researcher will enhance the section‘s profile through their expertise in the field of exoplanets, exoplanetary atmospheres, or stellar-planetary relations. This position gives the opportunity to pursue an independent research program within the section and contribute to the supervision of students at the undergraduate and graduate level. The AIP is a consortium member of the HIRES spectrograph for the ELT and has institutional access to several ground- and space-based observatories; candidates are encouraged to outline connections of their planned research to the relevant observational facilities of the current and next decade.

Qualifications

Applicants need to have a PhD in astrophysics, astronomy, or a closely related field. A convincing publication record in relevant topics and experience in acquiring external funding are expected. Experience in supervising students is welcome.

Salary and benefits

Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organizations in Germany at the TV-L E14 level and include employer contributions to medical and dental insurance, parental leave, retirement benefits, and a subsidy for a public transportation ticket. The appointment will be for an initial period of five years, with tenure based on a successful performance review. For exceptional candidates with commensurate qualifications a directly tenured appointment may be considered. The position is anticipated to start in fall 2022, but this is subject to individual arrangements.
