Postdoctoral Fellowship Position in Exoplanets
Job Summary
Job Description
The Exoplanet / speckle imaging group at NASA Ames, led by Dr. Steve B. Howell, is offering a 2-3 year postdoctoral position to assist with the large (and growing) high-resolution observational efforts underway. This position is through the NASA Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (NPP) and has a submission deadline of 1 November 2017 for a start date near January 2018. The successful candidate will ideally bring knowledge of stellar astronomy, exoplanet science, and/or high-resolution imaging techniques to the group. The Ames Speckle Team has programs targeting potential exoplanet host stars, nearby and other stars, and binaries. The new team member would be encouraged to start her/his own science program, while assisting with ongoing efforts to evaluate stellar multiplicity and to characterize the program stars.
An instrument development program will provide (up to) four speckle cameras for community service at the Gemini-North, Gemini-South, WIYN, and Discovery Channel Telescopes, and significant observing opportunities are available. NPP guidelines require that the candidate first contact the NASA advisor associated with a specific research opportunity by phone or e-mail. The advisor can provide more specific information on current research and available technical facilities and can offer scientific advice that will help develop the proposal you must submit with your application. Details of this NPP fellowship opportunity at the NASA Ames Research Center, including contact information are available at https://npp.usra.edu (see job opportunity 19107).
