Job Description

The department of astronomy (DoA) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) invites applications for tenure-track positions in all frontiers of astronomy and astrophysics, from exoplanets to cosmology, and from theoretical astrophysics to observational astronomy. DoA has 13 faculty members and a fast growing group of postdocs and students. The research team is very diverse and international, spanning across theoretical, numerical, and observational frontiers of cosmology, galaxy formation and galactic dynamics. DoA is also eager to expand into other frontiers of astronomy, and will provide ample research funds to support such efforts.  More information can be found at http://astro.sjtu.edu.cn/.

The new members are expected to carry out independent research projects, supervise students, and develop astrophysics courses in line with our emphasis on astrophysics within the major in physics program. The positions are open to researchers of any nationality. The salary and start-up grant will be highly competitive. Observers are especially encouraged to apply as China is embarking upon large observational programs.

DoA is a full institutional member of DESI. It also leads the Chinese consortium of PFS. DoA has ample research funds and computing resources. It also has an active visitor program. It has close collaboration with the astronomy division of Tsung-Dao Lee Institute, and the particle physics group at SJTU.

For inquiries please contact the department chair, Prof. Xiaohu Yang ([email protected]).

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a brief research summary, and arrange 3 reference letters to be directly sent to: [email protected]. Applications will be considered until the positions are filled. But for full consideration, please send all the material by Dec. 31, 2019.
