Job Description

We invite applications for up to two postdoctoral research positions funded by the ERC Starting Grant GALFOR led by Prof. Antonino Milone. The main purpose of the project GALFOR is the observational/theoretical study of stellar populations in old and young stellar clusters by means of: 1) photometry of images collected with HST and ground-based telescopes; 2) medium and high-resolution spectroscopy of stars; 3) analysis of stellar kinematics; 4) stellar evolution and dynamical models.

The successful candidates will join an active research team, working in the vibrant research environment of the University of Padova. Enquiries about the scientific project can be addressed to Prof. Antonino Milone: [email protected] More details about the research group can be found at: http://progetti.dfa.unipd.it/GALFOR/

The starting date is 1 January 2020, but later dates are possible. Applicants must have a Ph.D in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, or equivalent degree, or are expected to obtain their Ph.D. by the starting date. The appointment is for 2 years (with a possible extension up to one year). Gross salaries range approximately from 28000 to 41000 EUR/year, depending on experience. Salaries in this range are more than adequate for the local costs of living. Generous travel funds are available.

Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests (maximum 3 pages), complete list of publications, and arrange to have two letters of recommendation. The material should be sent by email to [email protected]. Applications received by 8 December 2019 will receive full consideration. Later applications are still welcome until the positions are filled. Women, Minorities, and Disabled Persons are encouraged to apply.
