As part of the ERC-funded “BHianca” project (PI: Eleonora Troja), at least three postdoctoral positions will be available in the Physics Department at the University of Rome - Tor Vergata. These positions will be for two years and extendable up to five years, depending on performance and the project needs. The successful candidates will join a dynamic expanding department, where they will benefit from interaction with an international group of researchers as well as a stimulating intellectual environment rich in colloquia, journal clubs, and workshops.
The researchers will lead and participate in observations across the electromagnetic spectrum of transient objects, including gamma-ray bursts, gravitational wave counterparts, and kilonovae. They will have access to data from a wide array of telescopes, including Chandra, XMM-Newton, Swift, HST, JWST, VLA, ATCA, GMRT, Subaru, Gemini, and GTC.
We would like to invite expressions of interest by candidates with background in gravitational-wave and/or observational astronomy. Candidates with previous experience in UV/optical/IR spectroscopy and imaging (from space or from the ground), and radio/mm observations are especially encouraged, although the search is not restricted to these skills. A candidate must have received their Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a related field prior to beginning the appointment.
The complete documentation will consist of a curriculum vitae (max 2 pp), a publication list, and a statement of research interests (max 3 pp). This information should be submitted as a single PDF file via electronic mail to Prof. Eleonora Troja ([email protected]). Three letters of reference should also be sent, directly by the referees, to the same email address.
Material received by January 14, 2022 will receive full consideration. Late inquiries will be accepted until all positions are filled.
The proposed starting dates range between Spring 2022 and early 2023, and can be further negotiated depending on specific needs. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plan, and parental leave. The department is strongly committed to inclusive excellence and individuals from all diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
