Job Responsibilities:

Applications are invited for an anticipated postdoctoral researcher position, starting January 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. This program is motivated by observations of the R Coronae Borealis (RCB), hydrogen-deficient carbon stars which are thought to be the products of white-dwarf binary mergers. We are using a combination of 3D hydrodynamics codes developed at LSU and the 1D MESA (Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics) stellar evolution code including nucleosynthesis to construct post-merger spherical models based on realistic merger progenitor models and on our hydrodynamical simulations. The research program involves detailed stellar evolution simulations of post-double degenerate mergers as well as the simulations of nucleosynthesis and the post-merger evolution.

Job Duties:

Conduct research, develop and run hydro simulations, write papers, attend national and international conferences, mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Astrophysics or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in hydro code development as a preferred qualification.
