The Astronomy Group in the School of Physics at UNSW invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to work with Dr. Kim-Vy Tran in the field of galaxy evolution and formation at redshifts of z>1. The successful applicant is expected to collaborate with Dr. Kim-Vy Tran on projects of mutual interest and pursue their own related research. All projects have exclusive access to multi-wavelength data-sets from the ZFOURGE and ZFIRE surveys as well as upcoming observations from Keck Observatory and the Very Large Telescope. Expertise with optical/near-infrared spectroscopy, mid-infrared imaging, and/or submm/radio observations is appreciated.
Australia has direct access to the European Southern Observatory and the successful applicant will be encouraged to apply for observing time. Australia is a founding partner in the Giant Magellan Telescope and building two of the first generation instruments. UNSW is located in the beautiful city of Sydney, and the Kensington campus is located in the prestigious Eastern Suburbs just 6km from the heart of the city, 2km from Coogee Beach, and 8km from Sydney’s domestic and international airports.
The initial appointment is for 2 years with the possibility of extension of up to 2 years subject to satisfactory performance, appropriate external funding, and there being an identified need for the position. Annual salary is AU$91,743 – $98,127 plus 17% superannuation and leave loading. Research and travel support are provided. Assistance towards relocation expenses and visa sponsorship will be available for the successful appointee if required.
