Job Description

The Institute of Radioastronomy & Astrophysics (IRyA) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) invites applications for UNAM postdoctoral fellowships in astrophysics. The appointment is for one year, renewable for a second year depending on performance, and will be held at the Morelia, Michoacan Campus of the UNAM.

Fellows are expected to carry out original research in any area of astrophysics, collaborating with faculty and students. Applicants should contact the faculty member with whom they wish to work in order to define a joint research proposal before the application deadline. By the starting date of the appointment, applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, physics, or related discipline, earned within the last 3 years, and be aged 35 years or younger. Knowledge of English and/or Spanish is desirable. Salary and benefits are commensurate with international standards.

Fellows will have access to the San Pedro Martir National Astronomical Observatory, Baja California and can also compete for the Mexican share of observing time on the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). Astronomers in Mexico have competitive access to the EVLA, the VLBA, and to ALMA, via a collaboration with the NRAO. The IRyA has extensive computing facilities on site, including a purpose-built high-performance computing center and access to UNAM supercomputers.
