The Institute of Radio Astronomy & Astrophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM, Morelia Campus) invites applications for a tenure track position in astrophysics at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Applicants should hold a PhD in astrophysics or a related discipline, and have at least two years of postdoctoral experience. Applicants must be under 37 (men) or 39 (women) years of age by the start date.
Candidates from all subfields of astronomy and astrophysics will be considered. Current Institute faculty have a broad range of interests, with particularly active research groups in extragalactic astronomy, interstellar turbulence, star formation and stellar evolution.
The main selection criteria will be outstanding research accomplishments and promise of future achievements. Faculty members are expected to carry out original research, collaborate with the research staff (24 faculty, 9 postdocs, 3 CONACyT fellows) and graduate students, and must teach astronomy and/or physics courses at the graduate and/or undergraduate level, as well as mentor students. The courses may be taught in either English or Spanish.
The Institute provides limited funds for publishing, and limited support for observing and traveling; further funding is available by competing for national and/or UNAM grants.
Candidates should send a complete curriculum vitae including a full list of publications, as well as a statement of previous experience and current and future professional interests, a description of research and teaching plans, and arrange for at least three signed letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the Academic Secretary of the Institute (at email@example.com) by April 30, 2021.
Review of applications will begin on May 1st. The anticipated start date is no later than September 2021.
Inquiries can be made by email to the Academic Secretary.
