Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Michigan State University working with Profs. Laura Chomiuk and Jay Strader on X-ray and optical observations of compact binaries.

This group has active multi-wavelength programs to investigate black holes and neutron stars in both globular clusters and the field of the Milky Way and external galaxies. Our observational effort spans the range of radio, optical, X-ray, and gamma-ray wavelengths, and Michigan State has guaranteed access to the SOAR 4-m telescope in Chile. The successful candidate will likely focus on X-ray and/or optical studies of compact binaries, though candidates with experience at other wavelengths are welcome to apply. Inquiries about the position are actively encouraged ([email protected]).

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in astronomy, physics, or a related subject by the appointment start, which would be in summer/fall 2018. The initial appointment will be for one year and will be renewable for at least two additional years upon mutual agreement.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, publication list, and a brief statement of research interests to the web site: careers.msu.edu using posting number 495773 (a link to this site can be found above). Please also have three letters of reference sent directly by email to [email protected].

Review of materials will begin April 15, 2018. Michigan State University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity institution.
