Job Description

The Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI) in Shanghai, China (http://leeinst.sjtu.edu.cn) invites applications for the T. D. Lee postdoctoral research fellow positions in the areas of cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, galaxy clusters, laboratory astrophysics and gravitational wave astronomy. We welcome highly motivated applicants who have recently obtained a Ph.D. degree or expecting one prior to starting the position, in astrophysics or a related field. The initial appointment is for 2 years with possible renewal up to 4 years. We offer an annual salary of 300k RMB (~45k USD) and heavily subsidized housing options through the co-sponsor Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).

The TDLI astrophysics division works closely with the astronomy department of SJTU (http://astro.sjtu.edu.cn) and gets access to its resources, including the data access of DESI, PFS, SKA and the AliCPT CMB experiment, and major observational facilities such as Subaru, CFHT, MMT, Magellan and JCMT, directly or through collaborations. Available computing resources include our institute computer cluster with 1000 CPU cores, a SGI with 256 cores and 4T shared memory, access to the SJTU supercomputer with 5000 CPU cores, and to national supercomputer centers with higher capacity. The TDLI astronomy division also works closely with its particle physics division, on dark matter search, dark energy, inflation and other frontiers in fundamental physics.

TDLI, initiated by Prof. Tsung-Dao Lee (Nobel Prize in Physics 1957), is a newly established national research institute. The director of the institute is Prof. Frank Wilczek (Nobel Prize in Physics 2004) and the executive director is Prof. Xiangdong Ji (APS fellow 2000, Herman Feshbach Prize 2016). TDLI supports research in high energy physics, astrophysics and quantum physics, and aims for establishing a top-notch physics and astronomy research institute. SJTU is the contractor and trustee of TDLI and is in charge of the operation of TDLI. TDLI has an internationalized environment with English as its working language, and invites candidates of all nationalities.

For full consideration, applicants should submit before December 15, 2017, a CV, a brief research statement and a list of publications to [email protected].
