The Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is seeking to hire a postdoctoral research fellow to work with Prof. Keren Sharon on topics related to gravitational lensing, in the context of the physics galaxy clusters, structure formation, and the physical properties of high-redshift galaxies. Candidates with interest in these topics are encouraged to apply. A successful applicant will take part in the large HST program BUFFALO (GO-15117), to analyze the Frontier Fields clusters using weak and strong lensing.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Astrophysics or equivalent field. Demonstrated experience in gravitational lens modeling is required.
The Department is a central member of the Magellan Telescopes in Chile, and the MDM Observatory in Arizona, and has privileged access to the SWIFT space telescope and the NOEMA mm array. Significant computing resources are available through the Department and through the University of Michigan.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will initially be for one year and may be extended for up to three years, contingent upon funding and satisfactory progress.
