Job Description

Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral search associate position at Missouri University of Science and Technology(S&T) in Rolla, MO in the USA. The position has a particular emphasis on modeling emission-line galaxies for ongoing and forthcoming surveys such as the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, working closely with Dr. Shun Saito and other staff of the Physics Department. The successful applicant is expected to work mainly on a project directly relevant to the DOE FAIR grant for which Dr. Shun Saito and Dr. Hearin (Argonne National Laboratory) lead. The main goal of the project is to develop a simulation-based framework and associated codes to model emission line galaxies targeted in ongoing and forthcoming surveys such as DESI.

We are seeking a highly motivated applicant who has obtained or is about to obtain, a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or related fields. Proven experience in one modern programming language is a requirement for this position. Proficiency in python, previous experience with cosmological simulation data, and the management of large astronomical datasets are strong assets. Additional experience such as a cosmological application of machine learning will be appreciated, but not strongly required.

The position is initially for 2 years with possible extension, contingent on performance and availability of funding. The starting date is negotiable but expexted to start in Fall 2024. To apply, please send a single PDF file which includes a current CV, publication list, and a brief statement of research interests to [email protected], and please arrange for 3 reference letters to be sent directly to the same email address by the deadline.
