Postdoctoral Research Associate I
Job Summary
Job Description
The University of Arizona (UA) Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory (SO) invites applications for one or more Postdoctoral Research Associate positions to work with Drs. Elisabeth Krause, Tim Eifler, and Eduardo Rozo on theoretical and observational projects with cosmological surveys. We are deeply involved in the ongoing Dark Energy Survey (DES) analysis, in preparing for the early data phase of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), and the future NASA Wide-Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST). We are interested in implementing joint analysis strategies for these different data sets, including information from ongoing and future CMB experiments.
Candidates should have a PhD in astronomy/physics or related fields and a strong background in cosmological data analysis, numerical simulations, or theory. In particular, we welcome applicants with research interests in combining multiple cosmological probes and data sets from different surveys. UA/SO offers a world-class research environment in ground and space-based astrophysics with strong interdisciplinary programs across the Departments of Astronomy, Physics, Planetary Sciences, and the UA Data Science Institute. Our group has access to high-end, local supercomputing resources (~275 TFLOPS) including distributed, shared-memory, and GPU architectures, and we can access external supercomputing resources through our involvement in DES, LSST, WFIRST. This position is expected to last up to 3 years (2+1 renewal) starting fall 2019 includes a separate budget for research and travel expenses.
