Applications are invited for one postdoctoral position at Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) in the field of star and galaxy formation. The fellowship is funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The ERC MIST (Molecules, Magnetic fields and Intermittency in Cosmic Turbulence) project focusses on several facets of the dissipative physics of baryonic matter in the local and high-redshift universe and fosters close interactions between numericists, theorists, modelers and observers.
The proposed research project, at the core of the MIST collaboration, includes numerical simulations of magneto-hydrodynamical turbulence dedicated to dissipation scales, with openings towards the formation of molecules in the wake of dissipative structures (shocks and current sheets).
Candidates should be numerically oriented physicists well acquainted with fluid mechanics. Programming fluency in Python and/or Fortran is wished. Prior experience in high-performance numerical simulations is not requested but will be an asset.
The team of the ERC MIST project is part of the astrophysics group at the Physics Department of ENS and has close ties with astrophysicists in the Paris area. The successful candidate will benefit from this broad and stimulating research environment.
The appointment is for two years with a possible extension to a third year. The salary includes French social security benefits and funding for travel.
