Post-doctoral Position in AGN and galaxy evolution at Seoul National University (with Prof. Jong-Hak Woo)

We have a new opening for a post-doc position with Prof. Jong-Hak Woo due to an unexpected event in hiring. The anticipated start date is April/May in 2024, but an earlier/later start is also negotiable. 

Successful candidates will carry out a variability study focusing on CL-AGNs, machine-learning analysis, TDE, and reverberation-mapping based on our long-term monitoring projects, i.e., SNU AGN Monitoring Project (2015-2021), SAMP II (2022-2024), KMTnet AGN Monitoring Project (2024-2026), and simulations for the future SPHEREx mission. Depending on the interest of the candidate, other research projects are also available, including intermediate-mass black holes, star formation of AGN host galaxies, and environmental effects on AGN. Independent research topic is also highly encouraged.

Astronomy Department at SNU provides a lively research environment and Prof. Woo’s group is well internationalized with several researchers from various countries. Successful candidates may have opportunities to advise graduate or undergraduate students. Korean community has access to various observing facilities, including Gemini, ALMA, JCMT, etc.

The annual salary depends on qualification and experience. University-subsidized housing is available on campus for monthly rent of ~500 US dollar. The duration of this position is 2 years, contingent upon satisfactory research performance.
