The SETI Institute (Booth #720) is a non-profit research organization in Silicon Valley close to the NASA Ames Research Center. Our mission is to lead humanity’s quest to understand the origins and prevalence of life and intelligence in the universe and share that knowledge with the world.

Ways to join:

  • If you are interested in joining the SETI institute as a PI and currently have funding, use the link https://www.seti.org/become-pi-or-affiliate to apply. Scientists and engineers in astrophysics, astrobiology, biology, astronomy, environmental or planetary science, exoplanets, astrochemistry, AI/ML, heliophysics, space instruments, or SETI can request to have their grant transferred to the SETI Institute.
  • Funded STEM Education professionals can apply to have their grants transferred.

Proposal support
To maximize your chances of receiving your next grant, we constantly look for proposal opportunities, review their requirements, and alert you early in the application process. In addition, senior staff are available to review your proposals and offer advice to increase your chances of success.

Compensation
The SETI Institute salaries are competitive with comparable work environments in the Bay Area. Salary levels are based on work experience, available funds, and other relevant factors. Additionally, the SETI Institute offers a generous benefits package that includes full medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage for employees and all dependents, 8% 403(b) retirement contribution and vacation and sick leave.

Indirect cost rate
The SETI Institute believes that indirect costs should be as low as possible apply more resources to science, so our indirect cost rate is competitive. We achieve this by affiliating with world-class organizations, including NASA Ames Research Center.

Flexible work location
The SETI Institute’s headquarters is in Mountain View, California. Designed to promote scientific collaboration, this modern space features technology-equipped conference rooms and windowed offices.

  • Collaborations with scientists at NASA Ames might allow you to work from Ames.
  • You can also work from your home office or a remote location.
