Job Description

Leiden Observatory invites applications for the Oort Postdoctoral Fellowship. 

This Fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers who are working in any area of astronomy in which Leiden Observatory is active. Candidates should have a proven record of high quality work, impact in their field and independence. In addition, academic achievements beyond research are highly valued (e.g., supervision, outreach, actions towards improving the academic environment).

Oort Fellows have the freedom to pursue their own research and will be provided with generous funding for travel and computing. The fellowship will be tenable for three years, subject to a review during the second year. The position comes with a competitive salary and full benefits (e.g., maternity and paternity leave). The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. by the starting date. Interested candidates should seek a sponsor from among Leiden Observatory faculty before applying. The position comes with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits including paid vacation, sick leave, disability insurance, maternity and parental leave, and social security and retirement benefits. Medical insurance is compulsory but not included and comes to 100-120 euro/person/month.
