Research Associate in Transient and Multi-Messenger Astronomy
Job Summary
Job Description
The Astrophysics Group at the University of Leicester invites applications for a PDRA in time-domain astrophysics. This position is funded by a Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) consolidate grant.
Our group has long-standing leadership in the field of high energy astrophysical transients, exploiting a wide range of data from ground- and space-based facilities, including involvement in the Swift, SVOM and Einstein Probe satellite missions, and multiple transient follow-up campaigns. The project builds on this legacy with the goals of observing and interpreting electromagnetic counterparts of sources detected as gravitational wave signals, and other high energy transients, particularly gamma-ray bursts. We are therefore interested in candidates with expertise in the science underlying these sources, and studies of astrophysical transients, but all applicants with a strong background in relevant fields of astrophysics are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should hold a good honours degree, with a relevant PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics or a closely related subject area. You should also have demonstrable research experience and skills relevant to the area of astrophysical transients, including presenting results at national & international meetings.
