The position is for a period of 2 years, with a start date of September 1, 2019. The successful candidate will work primarily with faulty member, Joe Romano, on topics related to the detection of gravitational waves, relevant for ground-based interferometers (such as LIGO AND Virgo), pulsar timing arrays (such as NANOGrav), and/or the proposed space-based interferometer LISA. The astrophysics group at Texas Tech includes faculty Alessandra Corsi, Tom Maccarone, Benjamin Owen, Joe Romano and Simone Scaringi, as well as several students and postdocs. The group is active in the areas of gravitational-wave physics (as part of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and NANOGrav Pulsar Timing Array Consortium), extreme and explosive astrophysics, and stellar populations in nearby galaxies. Applications should have a Ph.D. in Physics, or Astronomy (or related fields), and should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae including a list of publications, and a brief statement of research experience and interests in a single pdf file to [email protected]. Candidates should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the same address.
