The young Astronomy Nucleus at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research position in Galactic Archaeology funded by the Joint Committee ESO - Government of Chile. The position will be focused on the study of stellar atmospheres in the context of large spectroscopic surveys on-going and planned for the future, such as Gaia-ESO, APOGEE, GALAH, WEAVE, 4MOST or PFS. In particular, we are seeking applicants interested to contribute to the development of benchmark stars for calibrating big spectral datasets.
While at UDP, the successful candidate will qualify as member of the Chilean community and will be eligible for the 10% privileged access to all telescopes in Chile, including Gemini South, VLT, La Silla, Magellan, CTIO, SOAR, APEX, ALMA, etc, and therefore independent research will be strongly encouraged. The position includes a competitive salary and a generous travel budget. The position is available as soon as possible but starting dates are negotiable.
