Job Description

The department of astronomy (DoA) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) invites applications for tenure-track positions in all frontiers of astronomy and astrophysics, from exoplanets to cosmology, and from theoretical astrophysics to observational astronomy. DoA has 10 faculty members and a fast growing group of postdocs and students. The research team is very diverse and international, spanning across theoretical, numerical, and observational frontiers of galaxy formation and cosmology. DoA is also eager to expand into other frontiers of astronomy and will provide ample research funds to support such effort. More information can be found at http://astro.sjtu.edu.cn/.

The new members are expected to carry out independent research projects, supervise students, and develop astrophysics courses in line with our emphasis on astrophysics within the major in physics program. The positions are open to researchers of any nationality. The salary and start-up grant will be highly competitive. Observers are especially encouraged to apply as China is embarking upon large observational programs.

DoA itself is involved in several international observational and numerical projects. Data access includes Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS), Square Kilometer Array (SKA). It also includes major observational facilities, directly or through collaborations (Subaru, CFHT, MMT, Magellan, JCMT, etc.). Available computing resources include the DoA owned cluster with 1000 CPU cores and a SGI machine with 256 cores and 4T shared memory, SJTU High Performance Computing Center Supercomputer with 5000 CPU cores, and national supercomputer centers with higher capacity. In addition, DoA has ample research and travel funds, and an active visitor program.
