Job Description

The Department of Astrophysics at the University of Vienna is offering a 3-years postdoctoral research position at the Interstellar Medium Astrophysics group of Dr. Alvaro Hacar.

We seek an outstanding candidate to work on high-mass star formation studies using  interferometric observations as part of the new EMERGE ERC-StG project (emerge.alvarohacar.com). The candidate will develop a new framework for the reduction and analysis of large line and continuum ALMA datasets. By creating a new Galactic survey, the candidate will explore the origin of high-mass stars in complex fiber networks across the Milky Way. 

Candidates should have a PhD degree in astronomy/astrophysics with a proven record of publications in star formation and/or interferometric studies. Expertise on analysing ALMA or VLA observations plus data combination is highly desirable. Participation in teaching and supervision of students is requested. Excellent communication skills in English is required.

We offer a stimulating research environment with staff working in various areas of astrophysics. As a member state of ESO, Austria has access to their first-class observing facilities such as ALMA, APEX, and VLT. Generous financial support for computing equipment and travel is available.

Salary: Univie collective bargaining agreement: group B1 (postdoc); Starting date: before June 2021
