Job Description

We invite applications to fill up to three postdoctoral research positions to work on extra solar planets in the context of forthcoming JWST observations. The successful applicants will be based at the Astrophysics Department of CEA located on the Paris-Saclay University campus (https://www.universite-paris-saclay.fr/en). The proposed work is part of the flagship project ‘’Evolution of Matter from Interstellar Medium to Exoplanets with the JWST’’, funded by the laboratory of excellence P2IO (Physics of the 2 Infinites and of the Origins).
The successful applicants will first work on the preparation of JWST exoplanet observations, either by running/improving models of exoplanet atmosphere or by improving retrieval techniques or data reduction algorithms, as well as participating in open time proposals. They will then be involved in analyzing and interpreting data from Early Release Science, Guaranteed Time or Open Time Observations. Close collaborators at CEA will be Sébastien Fromang (specialist in numerical simulations), Pierre-Olivier Lagage (French European Co-PI of the JWST MIRI instrument) and Pascal Tremblin (co-developer of the ATMO code…). The applicants will also interact with collaborators of the project at IAS in Orsay and at LESIA at the Observatoire de Paris and more generally with our international collaborators.
The applicants will have access to a range of high performance computing options, including stand-alone machines, local clusters, and national supercomputer facilities.
The candidates should have, or be about to obtain, a PhD. They should have some experience in at least one of the following topics: exoplanet and/or brown dwarf atmospheric modelling, exoplanet atmosphere parameters retrieval technics, data-reduction of exoplanets spectroscopic or coronagraphic observations.
Salary and duration of the appointment will be commensurate with experience. The initial appointment is for 2+1 years. The expected starting date is flexible and is foreseen to be between September and December 2017, but could also occur earlier depending on the applicants availability.
To apply, please send a CV, a publication list and a statement of research interests to [email protected] and arrange to have 3 letters of reference forwarded to the same email address.
All applications arriving before February 05, 2017 will receive full consideration. Later applications will be considered until the positions are filled.
