Job Description

Applications are invited for a 2-year postdoctoral position in theoretical stellar astrophysics at IRAP / OMP, Toulouse in France.  The postdoctoral researcher will join the PS2E group working on stellar physics and exoplanets at IRAP and will work especially with Laurène Jouve and François Lignières within the ANR project BEAMING, led by Sébastien Deheuvels.

The BEAMING project aims at understanding the transport of angular momentum in subgiants and red giant stars. The successful postdoctoral candidate will use high-performance numerical simulations to investigate the potential role of magnetic fields in this transport. Access to local and national supercomputers will be provided.

We are seeking highly motivated young researchers with a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field. Prior experience in the modelling of astrophysical flows or/and high-performance numerical simulations will be much appreciated. The starting date can be anytime between June, 1st 2020 and late fall 2020. Salary will depend on qualification and experience. The position comes with full benefits together with a generous travel budget.

Located in Toulouse, in south-west France, IRAP / OMP provides a thrilling and productive research environment, with more than 250 persons (mostly scientists, engineers, postdocs, students) working in most domains of astrophysics, from cosmology to planetology and astrochemistry, and from theoretical research to instrumentation.

Applicants should send their complete CV with a full publication list, along with a brief statement of research project to [email protected] by March 29th, 2020.

Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to the above address by the same deadline.
