Job Description

The Department of Physics at the University of Florida invites applications for a postdoctoral associate to conduct research on topics related to supermassive black hole evolution, galaxy evolution, active galactic nuclei, and gravitational wave sources. The successful candidate will utilize computational methods and/or large data sets in collaboration with Dr. Laura Blecha. The nominal start date is Sept. 1, 2018, though this is flexible.

The position is renewable annually for up to three years based on satisfactory performance. A competitive salary and funds for research/travel will be provided, and the position includes a benefits package. The successful candidate will have access to ample computational resources via the newly built HiPerGator2.0 research computing cluster: (www.rc.ufl.edu/services/hipergator). The Physics Department and the Astronomy Department at the University of Florida have active research groups in many areas of theoretical and observational astrophysics, including gravitational waves, galaxy formation and evolution, and cosmology. Moreover, both departments are currently expanding through an ambitious hiring initiative, including a major push in Astrophysics, that has already resulted in several new hires in the last two years. The successful candidate will also have access to collaborative opportunities campus-wide via the newly established Informatics Institute at the University of Florida.

For full consideration, applications must be submitted online at http://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/cw/en-us/listing/ (search job #505121) and must include: a cover letter, research statement summarizing the applicant's ongoing research directions and interests, and a CV that includes a list of publications.  These files can be uploaded separately or as a single PDF.   In addition, names and email addresses for three references must be provided on the application. An email will be sent to your references after the application is submitted, so early submission is encouraged.  Applications will be reviewed beginning December 15, 2017, and the position will remain open until filled. To ensure full consideration, application materials should be received by December 15, 2017. For more information, please feel free to email Laura Blecha at [email protected].
