The Astrophysics group in the department of Physics at the George Washington University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in observational high energy astrophysics, working under the mentorship of Dr. George Younes. The postdoctoral research scientist will work on data acquired with a suite of high energy telescopes, namely, NICER, XMM-Newton, NuSTAR, Chandra, IXPE, Fermi, and Swift. The candidate will also help advise graduate and undergraduate students and participate in national and international conferences. The candidate will be highly encouraged to pursue original lines of research both within the scope of these projects and through e.g., additional funded projects of mutual interest. Finally, candidates are expected to work within a highly active international research collaboration including the NICER magnetar and magnetosphere working group. Hence, those with a demonstrated interest in collaboration and mentoring will be viewed positively.

The initial appointment for this position is for one year, but a renewal for up to 3 years is anticipated, subject to performance and funding. The start date is expected to be August – September 2023, though an earlier start may be accommodated. Interested applicants should visit the job ad at https://www.gwu.jobs/postings/98217. To apply applicants should submit a CV, cover letter, statement of research interest, and three letters of recommendations.
