Job Announcement Text:

The Department of Astronomy (DAS) at the University of Chile invites applications for Master and Doctoral positions in observational, theoretical, and/or computational astrophysics and instrumentation. Selected candidates will be awarded 4 years of funding to cover their Doctoral graduate studies, (2 years for the Masters program), and all are expected to start in March 2022. Successful applicants will be expected to attend graduate classes, colloquia, and pursue cutting-edge research projects as part of their training. Graduate students are also elidgible to apply for the guaranteed-time available to Chilean institutions on all telescope facilities in the country.

The DAS fosters an engaging and scientifically productive environment, with 24 faculty members and over 40 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Multi-wavelength expertise and a wide array of research fields are pursued by our members: from the solar system and planet formation, to cosmology and the high redshift universe, including instrumentation development. The DAS, one of the leading astronomy centers in Chile, hosts large internationally recognized collaborations like the Chile-China Center, CCJCA, and the Franco Chilean Laboratory for Astronomy, FCLA-UMI, along with major research and technology grants such as the Center for Excellence in Astrophysics and Associated Technologies, CATA. Super-computing facilities are also available locally, and through the National Laboratory for High Performance Computing, NLHPC, at Universidad de Chile. The DAS also hosts the Millimeter-wave Laboratory, which designs, builds, and tests receivers for use in radio-astronomy, along with ALMA instrumentation development.

The following materials are required as part of the application process:
