Job Description

The Scuola Normale Superiore (based in Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany) is the top University and research center in Italy. The SNS invites applications for a PostDoctoral Research Fellowship from brilliant researchers with strong background in Physics. The Fellowship is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant INTERSTELLAR recently awarded to the PI of the SNS Cosmology group, Prof. Andrea Ferrara. The Cosmology group at SNS currently includes about 25 members, and is a highly dynamic research and learning environment.

The research areas for the search include high-redshift galaxies and their interstellar medium, with emphasis on infrared and sub-millimeter observations. Previous experience in such experimental field is highly desirable. Good command of English and strong communication/writing skills will be important criteria for the selection. The candidate must hold a PhD in Physics, Astrophysics or Astronomy by the starting date of the Fellowship.

We seek candidates with significant accomplishments and promise for further achievement in the above fields. The appointment is initially offered for two years, with the possibility of a further one-year extension based on performance and fund availability. The gross salary will be of 45,000 €/year (53,000 USD). Generous research and travel funds will be also available.
