Job Description

The Enrico Fermi, Robert R. McCormick, and Mafalda & Reinhard Oehme Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are competitive prize postdoctoral research fellowships intended to attract outstanding early-career scientists to the Enrico Fermi Institute of the University of Chicago.

The initial appointment is for one year, renewable annually, for up to three years. The appointment carries a salary and benefits package comparable to other prize fellowships, with an additional allocation for independent research support. Appointees are given the freedom to work independently or in association with EFI faculty in a research area of common interest. The appointment would be at the internal University rank of Postdoctoral Scholar, which is open only to those individuals who are less than seven years beyond attainment of the Ph.D. degree. Priority will be given to those candidates who received their Ph.D. in 2016 or later. There are no teaching responsibilities associated with this position.

The Enrico Fermi Institute is an interdisciplinary research unit within the Division of Physical Sciences of the University of Chicago. The Institute's activities include the following: string theory and theoretical high-energy physics, experimental high-energy physics, theoretical astrophysics and cosmology, experimental particle astrophysics, infrared and optical astronomy, cosmic microwave background observations, general relativity and gravitational waves, and cosmochemistry.

One application is sufficient to be considered for all Enrico Fermi Institute postdoctoral research fellowships. Candidates will be asked to supply a cover letter, curriculum vitae, bibliography of publications and preprints, and a description of research interests to be pursued at the University. In addition, at least three letters of recommendation will be required.

Candidates who submit completed applications by November 8, 2019 will be given priority consideration. Contact [email protected] with any questions.
