Job Description

The Astrophysics Theory group at CU Boulder invites applications for one or more Postdoctoral Research Associate positions at JILA or CIPS (Center for Integrated Plasma Studies), nominally starting Fall 2022. We welcome applications from candidates interested in a wide range of topics in plasma and high-energy astrophysics. Current interests in the group include black hole accretion and jet physics, particle acceleration and dynamics of magnetic reconnection and turbulence, transients including extreme AGN variability and tidal disruption events, and the dynamics of galactic nuclei.

Our theory group spans the Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences (APS) and Physics departments at CU Boulder. APS is affiliated with research centers and institutes (JILA, CASA, LASP) and offers access to supercomputing and observing (SDSS IV/V, APO 3.5m) facilities. Plasma physics research in the Physics department is based in the Center for Integrated Plasma Studies (CIPS). The APS and Physics departments recognize that the effectiveness and creativity of a group is strengthened by contributions from diverse perspectives. We welcome candidates who have demonstrated leadership toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy or an equivalent degree by the date of employment. Initial appointment will be for 2 years, with a possible extension up to 3 years, depending on performance and funding.

Qualified applicants should submit a single pdf containing:

• Cover letter
• CV (including publications)
• Statement of research interests and goals (3 pages or less)

Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent by e-mail to Prof. Jason Dexter ([email protected]). Review of applications will begin on December 15, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. CU is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer.
