The Department of Physics at the Universidad de los Andes (Uniandes), Colombia, invites applicants for a postdoctoral position at the Astronomy Group. Uniandes is a private university which strives for excellence in both teaching and research, currently ranked in QS in the list of top ten Latin American universities.
The astronomy group does research in the areas of stellar variability, galaxy formation and cosmology. The group is member of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) and the Latin American Chinese European Galaxy Formation Network (LACEGAL). A postdoc working in this research area will have access to DESI data and will be encouraged to spend the summer doing research in Europe. The Astronomy group has also access to infrared data of the Vista Variable in the Via Lactea Survey (VVV Survey). A postdoc in this research area is expected to work in searching and classifying variable stars using supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, dependently and independently of the time.
