Job Description

The Simons Observatory is seeking an outstanding candidate for a full-time software engineer position, appointed at the rank of Associate Professional Specialist or more senior, based at Princeton University.

The SO software engineer will have the broad responsibility of assisting the data management team in the pre-first-light development phase. She/He will provide expert advice on best coding and software development practices, design and run Continuous Integration tasks, develop APIs and optimize software for HPC environments, maintain and distribute core SO libraries, participate in the design of periodic software reviews, and manage general data management issues and database(s) between the SO site and North America computing.

Essential Qualifications:

*Proficiency in C++/Python and familiarity in C/Fortran

*Experience in software development/optimization for HPC environments and in efficient use of large distributed filesystems

*Experience with online tools supporting development and deployment (such as GitHub, Travis, ReadTheDocs)

*Strong ability to communicate and collaborate, including through online channels (such as email, Slack)

*Bachelor's degree in applied and/or computational science

Preferred Qualifications:

*Experience with HTC environments

*Experience in CMB analysis

*Experience in Agile software development

*Advanced degree in applied science or computation
