Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in 21cm cosmology and related studies. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to play a leading role in research with the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array (HERA; see reionization.org). Opportunities exist for being involved in commissioning the HERA array during build-out, data acquisition and analysis, and the interpretation of data within a framework of theoretical predictions of heating and reionization of the intergalactic medium at high redshift. The successful candidate will be able to spend a fraction of her or his time on independent research projects. The appointment, supervised by Professor Jacqueline Hewitt, will be in the MIT Kavli Institute (MKI) for Astrophysics and Space Research, with collaborative opportunities enabled by MKI’s involvement with the Magellan Telescopes, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory, the Chandra X-ray Center, and the ILLUSTRIS cosmological simulations.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or a closely related field, preferably with a background in radio astronomy or cosmology. Those with strong backgrounds in radio-frequency techniques, computing, and data analysis are especially encouraged to apply. The position will be for two years, with one additional year contingent upon performance.
Interested candidates are asked to submit a PDF containing curriculum vitae including publications, a brief (< 2 page) statement of research interests, and arrange to have three letters of reference sent to:
