Job Description

The Laboratoire d’Astrophysique of Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in wide field observational cosmology. The position is funded by the Swiss National Science Fundation for the "Cosmology with 3D-Maps of the Universe". The main focus of the project is to strengthen our group on wide field cosmology to develop new constraints on the nature of dark energy, the distribution and nature of Dark Matter, and neutrino masses using a combination of imaging (e.g. through strong and weak lensing) and spectroscopic dataset (e.g. using clustering measurement), or a combination of both.

The candidate will join our young and dynamic team which is involved in major wide field surveys projects including: SDSS/eBOSS, DESI, MOONS, Euclid, and 4MOST. The candidate will be encouraged to take responsibilities and to bring his/her own ideas to the team. He/She will have the opportunity to work with PhD students and also to supervise Master Student Projects.

EPFL is recognized as one of the best Universities in Europe, addressing both engineering and fundamental sciences. The Astrophysicists from EPFL and Geneva University share the same facilities at the Observatoire de Sauverny near Geneva, but also have offices on the EPFL campus. There are also natural connections with CERN and with other Swiss Universities as well as with the Swiss National HPC Center (cscs.ch).

Applicants should submit a CV, a list of publications, and a short research statement, via email to [email protected] in the form of ONE SINGLE pdf file. Three reference letters are to be sent directly to the same email address before January 8, 2018. Post-doc positions are initially for 2 years, with possibility of extensions. The positions come with very competitive salary, and benefits and generous travel funding. The starting date is flexible.
