Job Description

The Leinweber Center For Theoretical Physics (LCTP) and Michigan Institute for Research in Astrophysics (MIRA) at the University of Michigan invite applications for a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship in theoretical cosmology, with an emphasis on numerical or theoretical investigations of dark matter, dark energy, or imprints of Early Universe physics on observable phenomena. The Fellow will be hosted by the Physics and Astronomy Departments at the University of Michigan.

Fellows are afforded the opportunity to construct and pursue an independent research program in an energetic and diverse research environment. Groups at the University of Michigan have active research programs in cosmology, dark matter and dark energy using a variety of theoretical and computational methods.  Michigan boasts an active experimental and observational program including the Dark Energy Survey, advanced ACTPol, advanced LIGO and the University of Michigan’s guaranteed access facilities (e.g., the Magellan, MDM, and Swift UV/X-ray/Gamma-ray telescopes). Groups are also involved in instrumentation and future efforts such as DESI, the Simons Observatory, LSST, and WFIRST. LCTP and MIRA host visitors, workshops, and conferences, and the Fellow will be able to benefit from and shape the scientific program of the two Institutes.

Fellowships will commence in September 2019 and the expected term is three years, dependent on performance and funding.  Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field prior to starting the fellowship. Applicants can apply online through https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/12144 . A cover letter, research statement and CV with publications list (with three "key" papers specifically highlighted) is required. Three letters of reference should be submitted through the same portal. Applications completed by December 1, 2018, will receive full consideration.

The University of Michigan is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer. Women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.
