Postdoctoral Associate in High-Energy Astrophysics
Physics (Division of Science)
NYU Abu Dhabi

Prof. Joseph Gelfand, of the Division of Science (Physics) and the Center of Astro, Particle, and Planetary Physics (CAP3) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work in the field of high-energy astrophysics, specifically the study of some of the most extreme and energetic objects in the Universe: neutron stars, the pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe) powered by their rotational energy, and the supernova remnants (SNRs) created in the progenitor supernovae. The successful applicant would be responsible for the analyzing and interpreting the latest multi-wavelength (primary radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray) observations of these objects, as well as have the opportunity to develop their own projects in this field. In addition to working in a department with a significant number of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students working on a wide array of astronomical projects, they would also be eligible for full participation in SDSS-IV, of which NYU Abu Dhabi is an institutional member, and have access to data collected by the SDSS-V project and sponsored time on observing facilities (e.g., the Las Cumbres Observatory, Green Bank Observatory, and Very Long Baseline Array).

Applicants must have a PhD in physics, astrophysics, astronomy or related field. Demonstrated experience in reducing radio, X-ray, and/or gamma-ray data is strongly preferred, as is experience with python / IDL / C / C++ programming languages. This is a 3- year position with a preferred start date no later than September 2022.

For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research interests and three letters of reference, all in PDF format to: https://apply.interfolio.com/98940. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Gelfand at [email protected].

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted by January 31, 2022.
