Faculty position at the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María

The Department of Physics at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM), Chile, invites applications for a faculty position in Santiago de Chile, to be filled during the first half of 2023. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Astrophysics, with proven research productivity and commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. 

Candidates with expertise in any field of Stellar or Planetary Astrophysics are preferentially welcome to apply while outstanding candidates working in the field of Galactic or Extragalactic Astrophysics might also be considered. Potential synergies with current UTFSM professors in astrophysics will be appreciated and should be highlighted in the application. 

The successful candidate is expected to have a commitment to excellence in research and to join the recently opened undergraduate program in Astrophysics, interacting closely with students. 

Our Department is an active research center in the country with a visitor program and an international research collaboration network. Our University is mainly focused on Science and Engineering with multidisciplinary activities, attracting some of the most brilliant students in these fields. The successful candidates will have access to the Chilean ten percent of observing time at the telescopes located in our country which includes ALMA and the VLT and in the near future the ELT and GMT. In addition, our University hosts powerful computer clusters. The selected candidates are expected to teach in Spanish within a year.
