HI postdoctoral position - MeerKAT Fornax Survey - INAF Cagliari
Job Summary
Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION
INAF - Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari has opened a 3 year postdoc position to work with Paolo Serra and his team on the evolution of galaxies in the nearby Fornax galaxy cluster as part of the MeerKAT Fornax Survey. The postdoc will contribute to the processing, analysis and publication of the HI data obtained with MeerKAT, with focus on: the effect of the environment on the resolved HI and star formation properties of massive and dwarf galaxies; the HI mass function; and the detection and imaging of HI in the intra-cluster medium. While analysing the HI data, the postdoc will enjoy access to a wealth of ancillary datasets, including wide-area, deep optical and Halpha imaging, ALMA and MUSE observations of individual galaxies, radio continuum images in total and polarised intensity, and cosmological simulations. Taking the lead on new multi-wavelength observing proposals will be encouraged.
The expected starting date is between June and October 2024 but can vary within reasonable limits.
