The High Energy Astrophysics group of the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IAAT) at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen invites applications for a

PhD position (duration: 3 years) in the research field of neutron stars.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated student, interested in the properties of neutron stars and their evolution. The PhD project will comprise multiwavelength observations of neutron stars and the modeling of population observables. The project will have a particular emphasis on data from X-rays observatories, notably XMM-Newton, but also the recently launched German-Russian eROSITA mission.

The IAAT comprises several groups in Observational and Theoretical Astrophysics as well as Computational Physics.
Tübingen in southern Germany is a research and education hub dominated by the presence of the University and several Max Planck Institutes. The picturesque old town has a vibrant feel and a welcoming atmosphere.

Applicants are required to have a diploma, master or equivalent university degree in astrophysics or physics by the starting date of the contract.

The position is available starting November 1st 2019. The salary is based upon the German federal public service scale (50% of TV-L E13). The University of Tübingen is committed to increasing the percentage of women in research and teaching and thus encourages women with adequate qualifications to apply. Disabled persons will be preferentially considered in case of equivalent qualifications. The process of hiring the selected candidate is handled by the Central Administration of the University.
