Job Description

A post-doctoral position is available in observational cosmology at the Laboratory of Astrophysics of Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. The position focuses on strong and weak gravitational lensing and their cosmological and astrophysical applications, in particular in the context of the ESA Euclid mission.

The following skills would be seen as significant assets: strong lensing modeling and ray-shooting lensing simulations, data mining, Bayesian statistics, sparcity methods, machine learning, deep learning methods. The selected postdoc is also expected to participate regularly in Euclid meetings and to be ready to help implement codes for the Euclid strong and weak lensing pipelines at the Swiss Data Center.

EPFL is recognized as one of the best Universities in Europe, addressing both engineering and fundamental sciences. The Astrophysicists from EPFL and Geneva University share the same facilities at the Observatoire de Sauverny near Geneva, but also have offices on the EPFL campus. There are also natural connections with CERN and with other Swiss Universities as well as with the Swiss National HPC Center (cscs.ch).
