Applications are invited for an astrophysicist (postdoctoral research fellow) at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), a member of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, to work with Dr. Aneta Siemiginowska and Dr. Dan Schwartz within the High Energy Astrophysics Division.
The successful candidate will carry out independent research and perform analysis and interpretation of new and archival X-ray observations of radio loud quasars and extragalactic jets, and in particular, work with the new data collected by the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Data may be supplemented with observations at longer wavelengths. Candidates with proven expertise and experience in astronomical data analysis, statistical methods, black hole theory, modeling including gravitational lensing, and jet physics are encouraged to apply. SAO hosts a large number of dynamic, collaborative, and multi-wavelength experts. The successful candidate is encouraged to pursue independent research projects. Funding is available for travel to conferences, equipment, and publications. Initial funding will be for two years, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and funding.
