Job Description

The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position as ARC Scientist at the East Asian ALMA Regional Center (EA-ARC) of the NAOJ ALMA Project to enhance the team to support ALMA science operations and to conduct excellent scientific research. The successful candidate will conduct their own cutting-edge scientific research with ALMA and other world-leading astronomical facilities and at the same time lead the exploration of new research fields, collaborating scientifically with researchers at NAOJ as well as the broader East Asia community members.

The successful candidate is expected to support the scientific operations of ALMA and/or lead some of the EA-ARC major activities (proposal preparation support, observing program preparation support, data reduction and data quality assurance, pipeline data reduction, user helpdesk, etc.) as an ARC Scientist, to contribute to Astronomer on Duty or systems/science verification in Chile (approximately one month visit to JAO per year), to support other science promotion tasks by contributions at science meetings and the annual ALMA East Asian Users Meeting, and to collaborate with JAO and North American and European Executive partners.
